ONE NIGHT STAND

This project was completed with the National Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONCA) Grant of Sinaloa State in Mexico. This series includes eleven dresses made with wrapping paper, magazines, yellow pages, newspaper sheets, plastic and wire. There is a metaphoric relation between fashion and mass media paper because both are ephemeral,  and carry social content.

Clothes have an important social meaning since they transmit messages individuals send in order to create a positive reaction on others.  We consume looks legitimated by mass media to be accepted in a desired social group. When people buy fashion they are also buying the status implied in it. Because of its social weight, fashion is consumed no matter its eccentricity, impracticality and ephemeral quality, like the dresses in this series.
